Stone Circle’s founders believe very strongly in the power and wisdom of women to effect positive change within their families, among their friends, in the workplace and in the world. Our gift and call are to support and foster a desire for continued growth in women of all ages and backgrounds to accomplish this worthwhile goal.
Janet was involved with church ministry for over twenty-five years, most recently serving as Pastor Associate for twelve years in a large Orlando parish. She left that position in 2004 to more fully pursue her other interests. She has lived in many parts of the US and the world and has a deep love for travel and exploration. She is a founder of Stone Circle and believes that each person's life challenge is to continually seek their emotional and spiritual potential while sharing their unique gifts and talents in service to the larger community. Her book, "In the Shadow of the Wall" a true story of the Vietnam era and its relation to events and experiences of today, will be released later this year. A second book entitled "Journey to the Roof of the World: Tibet", based on the photographs and poetry from her Artist of the Month show at the Orlando Museum of Art in April of 2003 will follow. She also authored the first Stone Circle Guide for Monthly Gatherings, "Building connections for Women: One Stone at a Time" which is a hands on tool for establishing Women's Circles across the country.
Salome Harasty has a strong belief in the power and wisdom of women to effect positive change within their families, among their friends, in the workplace and in the world. She has experienced various cultures from Native American to Australian Aborigines. She has observed the Sun Dance and participated in a Sweat Lodge experience. Living in Australia for two years, she became familiar with the beauty and heartache of the Aborigines. Salome earned her Language Arts Undergraduate Degree from Indiana University, Bloomington, IN, and a graduate degree in Religious Studies from Catholic University in Washington, DC. She teaches creative writing to mature learners for Osher Life-Long Institute at Eckerd College in St. Petersburg, FL, and through the college facilitates a writers' group. Some of Salome's short stories can be found in Unsilenced:The Spirit of Women, Commune-A-Key publishers. She has won a St. Petersburg Times writing award for Flash Fiction. Her stories and poetry have appeared in Eckerd Senior College publications. She is the author of Building Connections for Women: One Stone at a Time , volume 2 , a Stone Circle Guide for Monthly Gatherings. Hopefully, her most recent writing collection, Crane Spotting will find a publisher soon. Many years as a professional Religious Educator gives Salome experience in all levels of Church ministry, from Sacramental Preparation to washing windows. As a volunteer she is presently active within her parish in several ministries. She facilitates the RCIA sponsor training the process, the Candidate's retreat, and gives several presentations to the group throughout the process. She is currently a volunteer Chaplain Visitor in a local hospital. Her primary focus in the hospital is the Emergency Room and Critical Care patients. Along with Janet Herrick she co-founded Stone Circle in June 1999. Salome and her husband of 45 years Jerry live in Clearwater, Florida. They have 3 sons, 3 daughters-in-law, and 6 grandchildren.
To that end, she actively participates in Stone Circle as a participant, facilitator and board member. Much of Margie's time for the last four years has been spent nurturing her marriage, her three year old son and her 11 and 15 year-old stepsons. Life's lessons took on a whole new dimension with the addition of the five new men in her life (the family cat is male too)!
Dorie has worked in community development and government relations at Florida Hospital for the last 10 years. Prior to that, she channeled her professional energy into the advertising industry in Dallas for over 20 years. Dorie attended Louisiana State University (Go, Tigers!) and is a 2001 graduate of Leadership Osceola. She is a consummate organizer who is willing to help anyone at any time. She is a community volunteer, currently with Hospice of the Comforter. Dorie has been active in several church ministries; she coordinated the Ministry to the Sick at Holy Cross Catholic Church, both facilitating training volunteers and coordinating their schedules. She enjoys traveling with family and friends as well as cross-stitch, bowling and reading, and her kitchen talents are celebrated across the South (yeah, Snickerdoodles!).
In addition to traveling to be with her children and grandchildren, Jean has volunteered in a number of church ministries. After Jean and her husband moved to Florida, a new church was started nearby giving her the opportunity to be involved in a wide range of activities beginning with fund raising, writing and editing the weekly church bulletins and prayer petitions, as well as other parish service. Jean is an active participant in Stone Circle. She has volunteered her wide range of talents, knowledge and experience gained in the corporate world, to the "Visionary Board" of Stone Circle. She is also the editor of the quarterly Stone Circle Newsletter.
